I am overwhelmed by this news-I have hardly been able to publish it, as my eyes are filling up with tears of joy and relief.
To her captors:Thank you, thank you a million times over.
An Italian journalist held hostage in Iraq for a month has been freed.
Executives at Il Manifesto newspaper in Rome have confirmed that their correspondent, Giuliana Sgrena, has been released. The paper's editorial director said they were notified by the minister responsible for Italy's secret service.
It was not immediately known how or where Ms. Sgrena was released, or when she would be returning to Italy.
Gunmen abducted her outside a Baghdad mosque on February 4. She later appeared in a video appeal for Italian troops to leave Iraq.
Meanwhile, French officials continue to work for the release of French journalist Florence Aubenas and her Iraqi driver, who were abducted in Baghdad nearly two months ago.
